Stay Up-to-Date with the Latest Developments at PPG! Issue 30: June 2018

Welcome to the latest edition of NEWS from the Guild, published in association with BARKS from the Guild, PPG’s bi-monthly trade publication for pet professionals.


Early Bird Specials Available for Portland 2019


PPG and co-host Doggone Safe are still offering Early Bird discounts for their respective memberships at the Canine Aggression and Safety Education seminar taking place at the Crowne Plaza hotel in Portland, Oregon on April 26-28, 2019. The event will feature all-day general sessions supported by an afternoon feline specialty track. Session topics include the neuroscience of aggression, functionally assessing aggression, resource guarding, aggression modification protocols, techniques, and managing clients with aggressive pets, while presenters include Dr. Lisa Radosta, Dr. Nathan Hall, Dr. Ilana Reisner, Pat Miller, Chirag Patel, Niki Tudge, Judy Luther, Janis Bradley and David Pearsall, with Paula Garber, Francine Miller, Beth Adelman and Tabitha Kucera of the PPG cat committee heading up the feline specialty track. The Early Bird special applies if registration is completed prior to July 18, 2018. The popular Great Dane package is once again available and includes the seminar entrance ticket, seminar T-shirt, hotel accommodation, breakfast and lunch each day, and both evening events. This package may be paid for in installments over the next 10 months.

Shock-Free Coalition Coordinator Update



The first meeting will take place this month for those interested in the role of Shock-Free Coalition coordinator. It's not too late to get involved and work with PPG president Niki Tudge and PPG’s team of lawyers to enact legislation to remove shock collars from the supply and demand chain. Please do join us in this very important advocacy initiative! Find out more about the Shock-Free Coalition.

New Shelter and Rescue Facebook Group

PPG members are invited to join a new PPG group dedicated to rescue and shelter work, a place for everyone to discuss and find support for implementing PPG's philosophy in shelter and rescue settings. Simply go to Facebook, search for PPG Shelter and Rescue Division, and ask to join the group.

New Equine Resources on PPG Website

PPG’s Equine Committee is busy building up the Equine Resources area of the PPG website with an array of educational information on equine behavior and welfare. So far there are new articles on grazing and play. Do keep checking back for new information as the section is expanded.

Last Call for Print Edition of July BARKS

PPG to Host Fun Day of Education in Florida

PPG is to hold a day of free education and fun for Florida-based PPG members and DogSmiths on Sunday, September 16, 2018 at its headquarters in Tampa. The schedule includes presentations by PPG president, Niki Tudge, local veterinarian, Dr. Lynn Honeckman, and Tampa-based dog trainer and behavior consultant, Angelica Steinker. If you bring your dog, you can take part in a group training session to prepare you for an afternoon of fun competitions, including a “just-4-fun” agility competition. If you don’t have your dog, then you are welcome to help coordinate and judge the event. There will even be an award ceremony for the winners. Limited spots available!


Two Events - One Location


PPG is hosting back-to-back workshops at its HQ in Tampa, Florida later this year. Let's Coach Scent Work! is a two-day event taking place on October 20 – 21, 2018, hosted by Robert Hewings, head of learning and development for the United Kingdom College of Scent Detection. It will be Hewings’ first-ever appearance in the United States. Both working and auditor spots are available. The second event is the Walk this Way two-day instructor certification workshop with Louise Stapleton-Frappell and Niki Tudge on October 22-23, 2018. Again, both working auditor spots are available.
