April 2022: Issue 76 PPG Joins Pet Industry Advocacy International PPG has joined Pet Industry Advocacy International (PIAI), a new global initiative aimed at professionalizing the pet industry through ethics, consumer protection, and professional competency. PIAI will be a 501c4 nonprofit organization to be set up with nine signatory organizations. This coalition of organizations will be represented on its board of directors. Additionally, any pet professional organization that currently practices and advocates for ethical, humane, science-based services will be eligible to join PIAI as a non-voting member. PIAI believes the pet industry worldwide needs increased regulation, oversight, and adherence to policies, procedures, and best practices, and has set out its primary initiatives as follows:
As a PPG member in good standing, you are entitled to fly the PIAI flag. A personalized PPG badge has been emailed to all PPG members. This indicates to your clients, colleagues, and peers that you are part of a professional membership organization that has joined forces with other like-minded organizations. PPG Assistance Animal Committee Releases First Educational Resource The PPG Assistance Animal Committee has released its first educational resource, What Are Assistance Animals? The resource explains the three categories for animals that assist humans in the U.S., as well as the roles such animals play for their owners and in society. BARKS has also received a fresh new look as part of phase one of a huge new platform rebuild for PPG's five existing websites. Pets and Their People now marks phase two of the website rebuild. Dr. Pam Shultz has been appointed as the editor of Pets and Their People.
