Welcome to the latest edition of NEWS from the Guild, published in association with BARKS from the Guild, PPG’s bi-monthly trade publication for pet professionals. Kanab Workshop: Virtual Vendor Offers for All Members The event vendors at PPG's Training and Behavior Workshop at Best Friends Animal Sanctuary in Kanab, Utah later this month have all provided some great virtual offers that are available to ALL PPG members. Watch out for these from April 20-May 1. They will be posted in the PPG and PPGBI members' Facebook groups and will also be available at this link.
Kanab Workshop Recordings Available Soon You now pre-order the audio recordings from the Kanab Workshop. The page for downloads will open on April 27 at the completion of the event.
PPG Announces Portland 2019
 PPG is to hold a three-day seminar in Portland, Oregon on April 26-28, 2019 with a focus specifically on canine aggression and dog bite safety. Registration opens May 10, 2018. Special PPG member discounts are available along with an early bird special. Presentations will cover neuroscience, aggression, bite safety, community programs, liability, genetics, functionally analyzing aggression, resource guarding, behavior modification protocols, coaching clients and more. Pat Miller Joins PPG Special Counsel
PPG has partnered with renowned author and dog trainer, Pat Miller, who joins its Special Counsel as part of ongoing and growing efforts to promote humane, force-free training methods for all pets in a currently unregulated industry. Miller has worked professionally with animals her entire life, is author of seven books on dog training and behavior, runs a successful training academy, and, in May 2015, was named by Dog Fancy Magazine as one of 45 people who have changed the dog world. PPG will again provide a limited number of scholarships this year for members to further their education in force-free training and/or pet care. Scholarship applications must be submitted from April 5-May 5 via an online form. All applications will be reviewed by the scholarship selection committee, which includes members of the PPG education committee, the PPG steering committee and a PPG board member. Final scholarship recommendations will be forwarded to the PPG board of directors by June 12 of any given year, and the board of directors will notify all applicants of the outcome of their applications no later than June 26 of the year in question. Scholarship funds will be remitted directly to the educational provider and not the candidate. More information about the program and details on how to apply. Have You Signed the Shock-Free Pledge?
The key purpose of the Shock-Free Coalition is to build a strong and broad movement committed to eliminating shock devices from the supply and demand chain. This goal will be reached when shock tools and equipment are universally unavailable and not permitted for the training, management and care of pets. The Shock-Free Coalition believes that pets have an intrinsic right to be treated humanely, to have each of their individual needs met, and to live in a safe, enriched environment free from force, pain and fear. Members of the Shock-Free Coalition consider it to be their responsibility and utmost obligation to be vigilant, to educate, to remain engaged and work toward eliminating shock as a permissible tool so it is never considered a viable option in the training, management and care of pets.
